Trainee Estimator / Trainee Surveyor (Flat Roofing)

Start your career in estimating with a specialist flat roofing contractor that offers proper training, site experience and a clear route to progress.
This is a varied trainee role with a well-established contractor working across commercial and industrial flat roofing projects nationwide. You’ll learn from experienced Surveyors and Estimators, gaining practical knowledge of how roofing projects are surveyed, measured, priced and prepared for tender.
You’ll start with hands-on surveying experience, visiting sites and learning flat roofing systems from the ground up. As your knowledge grows, you’ll take on more estimating work and help prepare accurate, competitive tenders.
The Role
Your training will cover:
- Carrying out roof surveys on commercial and industrial buildings
- Taking measurements and producing take-offs
- Preparing roof plans, scaffold plans and survey information
- Meeting specialist subcontractors on site
- Learning flat roofing systems and construction methods
- Assisting with tender enquiries and quotations
- Supporting the estimating team with project pricing and submissions
- Working on projects across the UK
The role is designed to develop you into a confident Estimator with a strong understanding of both the technical and commercial sides of flat roofing.

About You
You may be a graduate, college leaver or someone with practical construction experience who wants to move into surveying and estimating. Relevant backgrounds could include:
- Construction Management graduates
- Building Surveying graduates
- Quantity Surveying graduates
- Construction-related HNC/HND qualifications
- Individuals with practical site or trade experience looking to move into a commercial role
You’ll also need:
- A full UK driving licence
- Good communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Basic IT skills
- A willingness to travel to sites when required
- An interest in construction, surveying or estimating
Career Development
You’ll follow a structured development plan with support from experienced members of the team. The aim is to build your site knowledge first, then develop your estimating skills so you can progress into Estimator and, longer term, Senior Estimator or Senior Surveyor positions.
