Our client is a Watford-based commercial and pre-construction consultancy looking for an Assistant or Intermediate Quantity Surveyor. You’ll work across live construction projects, with a mix of main contracting and specialist civil engineering work.
- Main Contractor Projects – super-prime residential and commercial refurbishment schemes up to £5m.
- Specialist Civils Projects – groundworks and reinforced concrete structures on water and infrastructure schemes, alongside similar heavy civils packages.
The role will support the commercial management of projects from pre-construction through to final account. There is plenty of variety and a clear route to taking full commercial responsibility for your own schemes as you develop.
The Role
You’ll start by taking ownership of CVRs and cashflow forecasting across live projects. You’ll also support cost planning, tendering, procurement, valuations, variations and final accounts. As you gain experience, you’ll move into running the commercial side of your own projects and specialist packages.

How the Role Will Progress:
- Prepare and maintain CVRs
- Produce cashflow forecasts and monitor project spend
- Support valuations, applications for payment and variations
- Assist with procurement and subcontractor management
- Build towards full commercial responsibility for an entire scheme
- Manage projects from pre-construction through to final account
You’ll be based mainly in Watford, with occasional visits to client offices in Bedfordshire, typically twice a month.
Key Duties
- Prepare CVRs, cashflow forecasts and commercial reports
- Monitor costs, budgets and project spend
- Support tendering, cost planning and procurement
- Measure groundworks, concrete and structural packages
- Manage subcontractor enquiries, comparisons, orders and payments
- Prepare valuations, applications for payment and variations
- Support contract administration and change control
- Identify commercial risk and value-engineering opportunities
- Assist with final accounts and project closeout
- Work closely with clients, site teams and subcontractors
About You
- Experience at Assistant or Intermediate Quantity Surveyor level
- Background with a main contractor, groundworks contractor, civil engineering contractor or commercial consultancy
- Experience across refurbishment, residential, infrastructure, groundworks, reinforced concrete or structural packages would be useful
- Comfortable producing CVRs and cashflow forecasts
- Good measurement, procurement, valuation and variation experience
- Commercially aware and confident working across several live projects
- Strong Assistant Quantity Surveyors ready to step up will also be considered
- Keen to take on more responsibility and progress towards Senior Quantity Surveyor level
