Quantity Surveyor – Tier 1 Contractor

A great opportunity has arisen for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a leading Tier 1 main contractor within their London & Home Counties division. This is a stable, well‑established business with a strong pipeline of work and a reputation for delivering high‑quality projects across multiple sectors.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Manage commercial duties across a range of projects within the Home Counties region
  • Produce accurate cost plans, valuations, forecasts and commercial reports
  • Support procurement, subcontractor management and change control
  • Work closely with project teams to ensure financial targets are achieved
  • Contribute to 2‑stage tenders and framework submissions
  • Build strong relationships with clients, consultants and internal teams
  • Ensure all commercial processes are followed in line with company standards

What We’re Looking For

  • Tier 1 main contractor experience (essential)
  • Experience working on 2‑stage projects (essential)
  • Mixed‑use project experience (essential)
  • Additional experience in education, leisure, healthcare or life sciences is highly desirable
  • Strong commercial acumen and understanding of construction methodology
  • Ability to manage your own workload and work independently
  • HNC/Degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills

    Senior Quantity Surveyor – Luton, Bedfordshire

    Salary: Up to £80,000 + £5,000 car allowance
    Location: Luton office (projects within 30 miles)
    Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (flexibility available)
    Job Type: Full‑time, office‑based with regular site visits

    About the Company

    A respected, family‑run main contractor delivering design & build, new build, and refurbishment projects across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Northamptonshire. Due to continued growth, the business is looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead commercial management across multiple projects and support the company’s long‑term expansion

    Role Overview

    The Senior Quantity Surveyor will take full commercial responsibility for several live projects, ensuring strong financial control, accurate reporting and effective subcontractor and client management. You’ll split your time between the Luton office and local sites, managing your own diary and working closely with project managers and directors.

    Key Responsibilities

    Commercial & Cost Management

    Prepare cost plans, estimates and feasibility studies

    Manage tendering processes and assess subcontractor quotations

    Produce bills of quantities, schedules of work and procurement documentation

    Monitor project costs, budgets and cashflow throughout the lifecycle

    Valuations & Accounts

    Prepare interim valuations, applications for payment and final accounts

    Manage subcontractor accounts, variations and commercial negotiations

    Project & Site Support

    Conduct site visits to measure works and assess progress

    Support project teams with commercial guidance and contract compliance

    Maintain accurate commercial records, cost reports and documentation

    Procurement & Value Engineering

    Support procurement strategy and negotiate best‑value packages

    Identify opportunities for cost savings and improved commercial outcomes

    What We’re Looking For

    • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor
    • Background with a main contractor delivering projects up to £5m
    • Experience across refurbishment and new build schemes
    • Strong understanding of construction contracts and commercial processes
    • Excellent organisational, analytical and communication skills
    • Ability to manage multiple projects within a local radius
    • Relevant qualification (HNC/HND/Degree in Quantity Surveying or similar)
    • CSCS card (Black or working toward it advantageous)
