Overview

A leading multi‑disciplinary contractor is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to take ownership of health, safety and environmental standards across a varied and growing project portfolio. The business delivers Facilities Management, Small Works, refurbishment and fit‑out, Construction, and Mechanical & Electrical services on commercial and industrial schemes.

The Role

You will lead the implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of health, safety and environmental systems across the business. Working closely with directors, project managers, engineers and site teams, you will ensure compliance with legislation, industry standards and client requirements. The role is based in Milton Keynes with regular travel to project sites.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Compliance

  • Develop and maintain Health & Safety Policy in line with HSWA 1974, CDM 2015, EaWR 1989, PUWER, LOLER, COSHH and Working at Height Regulations
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 45001 and client safety requirements
  • Provide specialist advice to directors, project teams and site staff
  • Lead accident and incident investigations, including root cause analysis and RIDDOR reporting

Project & Site Support

  • Prepare and review RAMS for construction, M&E and small works
  • Carry out site inspections and audits, ensuring actions are completed
  • Support pre‑construction planning and design risk assessments
  • Liaise with Principal Contractors and Principal Designers
  • Oversee subcontractor safety, including competency checks and inductions

Training & Culture

  • Deliver toolbox talks, inductions and H&S training
  • Promote a positive safety culture and proactive risk management
  • Keep up to date with legislation, HSE guidance and industry best practice
  • Support staff development and training needs

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain training matrices, accident logs, inspection reports and compliance registers
  • Produce monthly reports including KPIs, trends and improvement actions
  • Manage H&S input for tenders and PQQs

Requirements

Essential

  • NEBOSH National Diploma or NEBOSH General/Construction Certificate
  • Strong knowledge of UK H&S legislation for construction and M&E
  • Experience as a Health & Safety Manager or Advisor in construction or engineering
  • Strong understanding of CDM 2015
  • Experience preparing RAMS, conducting audits and leading investigations
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable

  • Chartered IOSH or working towards it
  • Experience with ISO 45001 systems
  • Experience in design & build and M&E installations
  • Familiarity with client systems such as Achilles, CHAS or Constructionline
