Quantity Surveyor – NEC Contracts

Watford, Hertfordshire | Up to £65,000 + Bonus + Benefits | Hybrid Working

An established commercial team, varied projects and the opportunity to progress to Senior Quantity Surveyor—all without regular travel between sites. A construction consultancy in Watford is recruiting a Quantity Surveyor with NEC contract experience to manage projects for a large specialist steel and glass subcontractor.

You’ll take ownership of packages valued from £100,000 to £1m, covering balustrades, staircases and balconies on HS2-related works, a museum and hotel schemes. This is a post-contract role, so your focus will be on managing live projects commercially, rather than estimating or tender pricing.

What’s on Offer

  • Salary up to £65,000
  • Bonus scheme
  • Hybrid working
  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays
  • Extra Christmas leave (2–5 days recently)
  • Quarterly social events
  • Private parking
  • Mileage reclaim + travel expenses
  • Pension
  • Recently acquired offices in Watford
  • Progression to Senior Quantity Surveyor

The Role

You’ll manage several subcontract packages from award through to final account, working independently with support from the commercial team. Keeping costs, value and cash flow on track will be central to the role, alongside managing the day-to-day contractual requirements of each job.

You’ll be based in Watford, with hybrid working available and no regular site attendance required. Travel will mainly involve twice-monthly CVR meetings at the subcontractor’s offices near Dunstable, Bedfordshire, with additional visits when needed.

Key Duties

  • Managing the commercial delivery of subcontract packages valued from £100,000 to £1m
  • Administering NEC contracts and managing contractual obligations
  • Preparing and maintaining cost value reconciliations (CVRs)
  • Producing and updating cash-flow forecasts
  • Monitoring project costs, value and commercial performance
  • Preparing valuations and applications for payment
  • Managing variations and changes under the contract
  • Agreeing final accounts
  • Liaising with the subcontractor and project teams on commercial matters
  • Attending twice-monthly CVR meetings near Dunstable

About You

  • Around five years’ experience as a Quantity Surveyor, including at least two to three years working with NEC contracts
  • A practical understanding of NEC contracts and how to apply them on live projects
  • A track record of independently managing the commercial side of live projects
  • Confident preparing CVRs, cash-flow forecasts and commercial reports
  • Organised and comfortable managing several schemes at different stages
  • Comfortable picking up existing projects and taking responsibility from the outset
