Overview

A leading main contractor is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join its Cambridge team. The business delivers major education and public‑sector projects and has a strong regional presence with a consistent pipeline of work.

Current schemes include three live projects in Suffolk, including Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds, with additional coverage across Essex. This position suits candidates living in Cambridge and the surrounding areas who want long‑term stability and involvement in major projects.

You will be largely site-based, taking commercial lead on £30–40m education schemes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the commercial function on major education projects (£30–40m)
  • Manage procurement, subcontractor packages, valuations and reporting
  • Oversee change control, forecasting and commercial risk management
  • Support pre‑construction activity on 2‑stage tenders
  • Maintain accurate financial control throughout the project lifecycle
  • Build strong working relationships with clients, consultants and supply chain
  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures and framework requirements

The Right Person

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management
  • Proven experience leading multi‑million‑pound DfE school schemes
  • Capable of taking full commercial responsibility for £30–40m education projects
  • Strong understanding of JCT contracts and 2‑stage procurement
  • Confident managing subcontractors, reporting, forecasting and final accounts
  • Able to work effectively within a collaborative project team
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to be site based across Cambridge, Suffolk and Essex
