Bid Writer – Hitchin, Hertfordshire (Office Based)

Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 DOE

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Bid Writer to join a long‑established Main Contractor with over 40 years’ experience delivering major projects across London and the South East. Founded more than four decades ago, the business has its head office in Hitchin and a London presence, and is known for delivering large new build concrete frame schemes across residential, student accommodation, hotels and mixed‑use developments.

They are financially strong, have low staff turnover and are known for their friendly, team‑spirited culture. The Hitchin office has a great atmosphere, plenty of parking and a close‑knit team who work hard but keep the environment light, supportive and sociable.

The Role – Bid Writer

You will be responsible for producing high‑quality written submissions for both public and private sector clients. This includes preparing compliance statements, drafting structured responses and managing the content required for Gateway 2 submissions. You’ll work closely with the design and technical teams for project detail, but you must be confident writing, structuring and compiling the full bid content yourself.

Main Responsibilities

• Submitting detailed, high‑value tenders for public and private sector clients, including large new build concrete frame schemes
• Preparing compliance statements and written responses for Gateway 2
• Managing deadlines and coordinating information across internal teams
• Working with the design and technical departments to gather project detail
• Ensuring all submissions meet framework, client and compliance requirements
• Maintaining accurate bid libraries, templates and supporting documents
• Supporting the wider pre‑construction team where required

Person Requirements

• Proven experience as a Bid Writer within the construction industry
• Strong background in public sector bidding, ideally including Council frameworks
• Experience working through Gateway 2—whether on new build or complex schemes—is essential, as you will be interpreting requirements and ensuring all written content is fully compliant
• Excellent written communication skills with strong attention to detail
• Ability to manage deadlines and produce clear, structured content
• Confident working with internal teams to gather technical information
• Highly organised with the ability to work independently
